The designer Bible - Part 61. - Martin Margiela

He is a Belgian fashion designer. He graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (Antwerp) in 1979, a year before the Avant-garde fashion collective the Antwerp Six. In the first 5 year he worked as a freelancer. Before showing his first collection, he worked for Jean Paul Gaultier. Between 1997 and 2003 he was the creative director of the Hermès women's line.

He was kind a invisible man. Throughout his career he was hiding from public: he has never had his picture taken and never showed up on stage after his shows. In 2008 the New York Times was the first magazine, which published a photo about him.
